What makes a good restaurant? To me, it’s consistency. When I go to McDonald’s, I’m not expecting a Kobe burger, but I know I can get a good cheeseburger with decent fries. McDonald’s has its operations down to a science. Other chain restaurants are the same.
Romano’s Macaroni Grill at Ala Moana Center – Ho ‘okipa Terrace is consistent. The food is tasty all the time. One of our friends goes to Romano’s Macaroni Grill every Tuesday night and orders the same thing, the Simple Salmon (seasoned grilled salmon filet cooked to order and served with fresh asparagus) for $16.99. My husband orders the Simple Salmon too.
Why, when there are so many other things to eat like the Shrimp Portifino ($16.99) which is sauteed shrimp with mushrooms, pine nuts and spinach in a tangy lemon butter sauce or the penne rustica ($15.59) which is penne pasta with shrimp, grilled chicken with smoked prosciutto baked under a golden crust of Parmesan cheese? People like what they like and there is comfort in knowing what you are eating will be the same each and every time.
I like Romano’s Macaroni Grill. Yes, I know it’s a chain restaurant but that doesn’t matter to me. My personal favorite is the Tuscan Rib Eye steak (a 16-oz Choice steak) served with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus for $23.99. I eat about half of it and take the rest home for another meal. The steak is tasty and affordable. There are better, more expensive steak places in Hawaii but I’ll touch on that in another review.
I highly recommend the calamari fritti. It’s one of the best I’ve had anywhere. The calamari is tender and the batter crispy and comes with two sauces for dipping, a zesty pizzaiola and a basil pesto aiola. Try it, I think you’ll like it.
Whether, it’s a salad, pizza, pasta, fish, chicken or steak you’re craving, consider Romano’s Macaroni Grill at the Ala Moana Center – Ho ‘okipa Terrace, 1450 Ala Moana Boulevard, Suite 4240. Phone number (808) 356-8300. The food is good and consistent.
