Our Dining Experience at Le Bistro

Le Bistro is located on the Ewa side of a strip mall on 5730 Kalanianaole Highway. The tables are neatly arranged but in close proximity so that you can hear conversations of fellow diners. Prints of Guy Buffet decorate the walls. The draw here is the food.

It’s been about 2 years or so since we went to Le Bistro. We’ve wanted to go sooner but when we called they were booked. Be sure to call for reservations at (808) 373-7990 especially if you want to eat between 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on a Friday or Saturday night.

The food here has always been tasty but not inexpensive. To me, it’s somewhere you would go for a special occasion. We spent $100 without tip for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, a dessert, and a drink.

While dining at Le Bistro, we’ve spotted KHON2 news anchor Joe Moore several times and also actor Josh Holloway who plays Sawyer in the TV hit series Lost.

I had the French onion soup ($7.80) which was cheesy, tasty, and filling. Ron had the shrimp appetizer ($12.80) with the cognac sauce. There were 2 huge shrimps with the head and shells on.  The cognac sauce was ono and great with the bread.

For our main course, Ron had the Bistro rib eye which was cooked perfect for him, medium well. I had the BBQ lamb chops (3 ribs) which had the taste of the Chinese hoi sin sauce. Both entrees came with potatoes, broccoli and green beans and were each $29.80. The lamb chops were also cooked to medium well but were lukewarm. I mentioned this to the waiter who apologized profusely. Ron tasted the BBQ lamb and thought they were good although he doesn’t like lamb.

We ordered the apple tart ($7.95), thinly sliced apples on a filo crust served with ice cream for dessert. Yummy.

Despite my lamb being lukewarm, the food was good, especially the sauces. I was definitely full when I left the restaurant. The food was tasty and filling and the service good. Our reservation was for 5:30 p.m. on a Wednesday and the restaurant was quite busy.
