Monterey Bay Canners

Taste change. We live in downtown Honolulu so we don’t usually eat in the Leeward area. Eating out takes effort and gasoline but we used to go to Monterery Bay Canners as a treat. Is it worth the drive?

Today was a holiday and hubby wanted to go to Pearlridge. After walking around the renovated mall, we decided to eat at Monterey Bay Canners. It’s been years since we went there.

We had a late breakfast so I wasn’t really hungry. Although I love seafood, I wasn’t in the mood for it. I decided to try one of the daily lunch specials which for $6.99 is a good deal. I had the mushroom chicken which is a chicken breast with mushroom gravy (not the cream of mushroom soup), 2 scoops of rice, and steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. Hubby wanted to eat the fried zucchini and calamari but opted for the pepper steak daily special.

Our server said that the beef and chicken stir fries are the most popular specials.

The mushroom chicken was tender and delicious and quite filling. Hubby, however, was disappointed. His steak was chewy and tough. Ron doesn’t like peppers but he ate them all. The rice was cold too. We took the rice home and I heated it for dinner.

The best part of our meal was the dessert. We chose the chocolate mousse cake which was light, moist and sweet.

Monterry Bay Canners was busy with groups of tourists but the staff was attentive and the food came out fairly quick. We didn’t order any seafood and that is their specialty.

I’m not sure if Monterry Bay Canners is worth the drive especially when there are so many good restaurants nearby. If you live in the area, the lunch specials are reasonable and filling.
