Orchids, a Fine Dining Experience

If you’re looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion, Orchid’s is one of those places. Located at the Halekulani, Orchids has it all.

Hubby and I had a date at Orchids tonight. We requested a table on the Diamond Head side of the restaurant so we could listen to the Hawaiian music coming from House Without a Key and see Kanoe Miller dance. It was a wonderful to see Diamond Head and the show. We were enjoying Hawaii like tourists instead of locals.

Ron ordered the scallops for an appetizer ($17.50) and the filet ($34). I decided on the onaga ($34.50), which was steamed Chinese style with an oil and soy sauce.

After getting our beverages, we were served rolls and lavosh with a spinach cream cheese spread which was delicious and I’m sure very fattening.

The scallop appetizer (3) were topped with creamed corn. The scallops were cooked just right so they were sweet and tender.  Ron’s filet was well done but melt in your mouth tender.

My two pieces of onaga were cooked to perfection. The fish was flaky and not overcooked. The onaga was accompanied with some vegetables and shiitake mushrooms and served with white rice. I highly recommend this dish if you like fish.

While we at Orchids we saw several wedding parties and overheard that the restaurant bakes usually 5 wedding cakes a night.

Although, the dessert menu looking tempting, we decided to pass. We were served two pastries that had coconut which hit my sweet tooth.

Dinner tonight was memorable. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing and the food was cooked perfectly. We definitely will return to create another special occasion.
