The Right Mix..The Mix Cafe

If you like bread and are looking for a place to get a great sandwich, look no further than the Mix Cafe.  Mix I is located at 35 South Beretania and Mix II at 1025 Alakea Street in Downtown Honolulu.

Yesterday I went to an event that had lunch catered from the Mix Cafe.  I tried the steak sandwich and the chicken dijon.  Both were different but equally good.  Let me explain that I’m not really a sandwich eater so for me to say that a sandwich is good is something.  Both the steak and the chicken were served on baguettes.  Each sandwich had a healthy portion of meat, cheese, and grilled vegies. I wish I could have tasted the portobello mushroom and the fresh turkey sandwich.

I was so impressed with the sandwiches that I decided to visit the Mix Cafe today and ordered the pork sandwich which came on a wheat bun.  The pork is thinly sliced, very tender and tasty and came with cheese and caramelized onions.  Each sandwich comes with a healthy portion of fresh salad served with a balsamic dressing.  The sandwich cost $7.60 without tax.  The sandwich is about 6 inches which is enough for 2 meals for me.

It’s hard to decide what to order…everything looked good especially the tuna nicoise and a salmon.  The server said that when in doubt order the chicken dijon.  I walked by Mix II the other day on my way to Starbucks at 9:30 a.m. and the sandwiches were piled high.  I came for lunch today at 12:45 p.m. and I can understand why there were stacks of sandwiches prepared in advance. The emphasis is on good, fresh food which attracts people that like good food.  The sandwiches here are definitely not the same quality as Subway or Quiznos.  This is a must try.

Homemade dessert is $2.50 a piece.  I’ve got to try the carrot cake the next time.  I like the carrot cake at Paradise Bakery so it’ll be interesting to see how the Mix Cafe measures up to that one.
