Kaka’ako Kitchen “Where good food comes naturally fresh”

I like catfish, usually deep fat fried, southern style.  Kaka’ako Kitchen serves a Furikake Tempura Catfish with ponzu sauce for $8.99.  3660 also serves a Tempura Catfish which I really like.  The portions are healthy and the catfish just melts in your mouth.  I usually order the ponzu sauce on the side so I can dip the crispy fish in. 

Hubby and I went to Kaka’ako Kitchen to try the catfish on Saturday.  Kaka’ako Kitchen is casual dining.  The menu is on the board behind the cashier.  There are ample chairs for eating inside or outside.  Jugs of water with cups are outside.  You order your food, given a number which helps the server to bring your food to you.

The Catfish is cooked after you order it so we had to wait about 10 minutes for it.  For $8.99 you get a scoop of white or brown rice and macaroni salad.  Instead of the macaroni salad, I ordered the ‘Nalo Greens for 60 cents more.  We got 2 pieces of catfish about 5 ounces each which was crispy on the outside but flaky and tender. Hubby ate the catfish by itself but I dipped it in the ponzu sauce.  It was yummy.

We also ordered a piece of strawberry cake which was light and very good.

I definitely recommend Kaka’ako Kitchen.  The food is not fancy but it is good and reasonable.  Try it.  Kaka’ako Kitchen is open Mon – Thurs from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m., Fri – Sat 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Sun 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Phone 596-7488.
