I read menus like novels. I try to imagine what a dish will taste like before I order it. Sad to say, my imagination is better than reality sometime. My company catered food from Sam Choy’s for a small lunch. We ordered the Sam Kahuku Luau Crab Dip, New York Steak, Marinated Ahi Salad on Greens, Chop Chicken Salad, and the Spicy Garlic Chicken Fettucine. Tab came to just under $200 to feed 10 people. We ordered double portions of everything except the New York Steak. We got 3 orders of that.
There was a lot of food except the Crab Dip which was not very good. I’d skip that altogether. My personal favorite is the Marinated Ahi on greens ($17.95) and the Chop Chicken Salad ($16.95). One order of each would have been sufficient. The ahi was moist, tasty and delicious especially with the creamy oriental dressing. The chop chicken salad came with grilled chicken, bacon, eggs, avocado, and greens with a honey mustard dressing.
Everyone like the spicy garlic chicken fettucine. It had a kick to it but not too much and the fettucine was not overcooked.
The New York Steak was a bit chewy but was a big hit. It came with rice, lots of it which we had a lot leftover.
The staff and the chef that I spoke with were very cordial and helpful.
The food at Sam Choy’s is plentiful but the quality is fair. Prices are not inexpensive either. Although, I liked the Marinated Ahi Salad, the price is a bit stiff for a salad. Please note that we ordered lunch. Dinner prices are more expensive. Would I go back? Not any time soon.
