Don’t Count on The Counter

The Counter has been voted the No. 1 burger place by some.  Sorry to differ but I don’t think so.  Hubby and I went to the Counter on July 4th for dinner.

The Counter is at Kahala Mall at 4211 Waialae Avenue.  The staff is pleasant and attentive but the reason that I’m there is for the burger.  Hubby wanted to go to Teddy’s again but I convinced him to go to the Counter as I heard that they had THE BEST burgers in Hawaii by some so I HAD to try a burger there myself.

Although you can build your own burger, we decided to order the Counter Burger ($10.95) which came with provolone cheese, sauteed mushrooms, fried onion rings, tomato, and lettuce on a taro bun and an order of fries and onion strings ($5.50).  Hubby wanted the burger cooked so that there was no pink.  I said medium well.

The fries and strings came out first.  Hubby said that the fries were comparable to McDonald’s which is a good thing since he thinks McDonald’s makes good fries.  The fries/strings were served with ranch dressing and a barbecue sauce.  The onion rings were great.  Thin tasty strings fried crispy.  So good.  The burger was so so.  First of all, the burger is huge.  It’s hard to take a bite.  Personally, I think the taste of the burger was bland and that the burger was dry.  The toasted bun did not fall apart which for some is a plus.  A good burger needs to be juicy and tasty.  I don’t like it when the bun falls apart but if the bun is tasty, I don’t care.

The Counter also has Happy Hour Monday – Friday where you can get three mini burgers for $5 or a mini loco moco for $3.  Would I go back?  Perhaps, but not soon.  I prefer Teddy’s Bigger Burgers.  The burgers there are tastier and you get more for your money.
