If you had a chance to eat anywhere on Oahu, where would you chose? One of the places I would chose is Orchids at the Halekulani.
Orchids has it all, ambiance, good food, and excellent service. My office had their annual dinner at Orchids last month and the food was excellent. We had a choice of two appetizers (Manoa lettuce or Miso Lobster Consomme), entrees Onaga “Orchid’s Style” or filet mignon, and desserts (coconut cake or lilikoi creme brulee).
I chose the miso lobster consomme with shiitake mushrooms, lobster and vermicelli spring roll, filet mignon, and lilikoi creme brulee.
The consomme was very tasty, light and not salty and was perfectly complemented with the spring roll which could be dunked in the consomme.
I ordered the filet medium but when I cut into it was too rare for me. I sent it back to the kitchen and it came back perfect. I was only going to eat half of it but it was so delicious and tender, I ate the entire piece.
The surprise for me was the creme brulee. I love creme brulee and was expecting the normal type. However, the creme brulee was on top of a macadamia nut biscuit cut in a rectangle shape. The lilikoi flavor was not overpowering. The dessert was a nice touch to a wonderful dinner.
I was full but not stuffed. Dinner per person without beverages was $60/person. I highly recommend Orchids for a nice formal, memorable dinner.
