Happy Hour at Hiroshi’s

Hiroshi Eurasian Tapas is located on the Diamond Head side of Restaurant Row at 500 Ala Moana Boulevard.  It is one of the  the dk family of restaurants.

Hiroshi’s is not inexpensive.  To me the only way to eat there if money is an object is to go during happy hour (5:30 – 6:30 p.m.) and eat AT the bar, not in the bar.  During happy hour, all the food is 50% off.

Even with happy hour prices my tab without any alcohol came to $32.  dk restaurants add on a 17% service charge on the total of the items ordered before subtracting the 50% so keep that in mind when ordering.

I ordered the duo contemporary sushi (cold smoked mekajiki and sweet miso glazed salmon) appetizer ($14.50), the red wine steamed veal cheek($23.95) with cilantro pesto , Asian succotash, and mashed potatoes, and Hawaiian vanilla bean panna cotta ($7.75).

The food was excellent.  I was full after eating the sushi and could have stopped there.  My fave was the sweet miso glazed salmon sushi. The broth of the veal cheek was so tasty and seasoned just right. I only wish I had more broth.  The veal cheek was tender and melt in your mouth perfect. Portions were enough that I was able to have leftovers for another meal.  The panna cotta was great too.

LS had the crab soup ($9.95) and she said that she would order that again.  For dessert, LS chose the chocolate ooze cake.  LS ate everything on that dessert plate and said that it was good.

The couple next to us at the bar were trying out quite a few dishes said that they would recommend the seared sea scallops ($10.75), the sous vide of Kona cold lobster tail ($14.95), and the boneless short rib ($26.95).

Happy hour is nightly at Hiroshi’s. Sitting at the bar is not the most comfortable place to eat since there is a the ledge and you have to bend over it but to me it was worth it to save some money.

I would definitely recommend Hiroshi’s happy hour.  I can’t wait to return.  I’m not sure how crowded the bar is on other nights but on Monday and Wednesday, seats were readily available. Service was great…very friendly and helpful.

For reservations to Hiroshi’s call 533-4476 but remember happy hour is at the bar only and you can’t make reservations for that.  Validated parking is free.
