My friends and I stopped by at Manoa Marketplace on Saturday morning. They opted for Manoa BBQ but I decided to venture out and try GRYLT Manoa located next to First Hawaiian Bank.
The menu is located on the wall and can be overbearing especially if you don’t know what you want. The plate lunches are $9.95 and you build it your own way. You start with a starch, either white or brown rice, mashed potatoes or mashed cauliflower. Then you choose your veggies, grilled veggies, spring mix, Romaine lettuce, or spinach. Next you decide on your protein, chicken, ahi, shrimp, tofu or steak and lastly your sauce. There are also acai bowls, salads, sandwiches starting at $6.95.
I ordered the kal bi sandwich. I asked the server if I could substitute a starch instead of the bread which she okayed with the manager. The kal bi was shredded, tender and flavorful and since it was on the cauliflower made the cauliflower taste good too. The cauliflower was a nice alternative but I think I would order the mashed potatoes or brown rice the next time. The mixed greens had mandarin oranges and a light citrus vinaigrette dressing which was not overpowering. The “sandwich” was enough for me and was exactly what I wanted.
I would go back to GRYLT Manoa again. Next time, I might try the grilled ahi although I really liked the kal bi. The food is a healthier alternative to some of the other fast food places in Manoa. Portions are ample and price comparable. I found the staff friendly and accommodating. GRYLT Manoa is located at 2764-A Woodlawn Drive. Their phone number is 988-7832.
