Longhi’s Ala Moana

Where do you go for a romantic dinner? Hubby wanted to try Longhi’s for our Friday date night. Unfortunately, I had to work late so instead of a dinner at sunset, our dinner overlooked the Ala Moana Shopping Center parking lot at night.

Longhi’s was not crowded so we were able to get seated immediately.  We could have ordered from the happy hour menu (available from 4 – 7 p.m. in select areas) but hubby did not want to sit at the bar.

We were seated but decided to change our seats because it was a little drafty because of the ceiling fans. Bear in mind that we have not been to Longhi’s since it first opened at Ala Moana Shopping Center.

Longhi’s is expensive. Everything is served ala carte. Pasta is made fresh but it is not on the menu. Your server will recite the pasta menu to you without prices. Tip…you can order a half portion of the pasta items which is the way to go because even the half portions are quite generous.

I ordered a half order of angel hair pasta with pesto sauce ($13) with a side order of grilled chicken ($4). Hubby ordered a half order of rigatoni with bolognaise sauce ($14) and a filet mignon ($37).

The food was delicious. Our food came out with sliced pizza. I wish they had given us the pizza first because I was hungry. The food was good and we had enough leftovers for another meal.

The pesto sauce was rich and the angel hair pasta absorbed the sauce. The grilled chicken needed more seasoning. Hubby enjoyed his rigatoni and said that he could have skipped the filet although he thought the filet at Longhi’s is comparable to that served at Ruth’s Chris.

Longhi’s was very noisy, not exactly the place for a romantic dinner. Not sure if it was because it was a Friday evening during happy hour.

An unexpected plus going to Longhi’s on Friday night was watching the Hilton Hawaiian fireworks display. Pretty spectacular.

Cost of dinner was $82 including tip and we did not order much and only had water to drink.
