Hubby and I spent our 30th wedding anniversary at Son’z Maui at Swan Court and wanted to eat the filet mignon meatballs again without flying to Maui so we made plans to eat at Sarento’s at the Top of the Ilikai, a sister restaurant of Son’z.
We ordered two appetizers, the calamari fritti($9) and smoked salmon ($12), the Gabriella salad ($12), filet mignon meatballs with spaghettini ($28), and chocolate cake ($9).
We requested a window seat with a view to the ocean so we could see the sunset. Unfortunately, there was scaffolding blocking the view but we saw a nice sunset, minus the green flash.
The calamari was a nice portion, tender not chewy with just the right amount of batter served over a delicate pomodoro. The smoked salmon was slices of smoked salmon served on 2 potato chips with a light creme, onions, and caviar. That appetizer or tapa (small plate) was good.
The Gabriella salad was good but the portion size small. Hubby said that he would not order that again.
However, the reason we went to Sarentos was to eat the filet mignon meatballs which were very good. We split the order. Hubby got two meatballs and I got one which was perfect for me. We could have ordered a half portion each but just split a full order in the kitchen.
The chocolate cake had layers of cream cheese which hubby avoided. The cake was moist and rich.
Hubby also ordered 2 rum & cokes ($9 each). Sarento’s is not inexpensive. Our bill with tax and tip was over $110 for two people. Service was very attentive and friendly but not overbearing.
I have an allergy and the staff was very willing to offer substitutions. Benny was especially helpful.
Would we return? Yes, but for special occasions and their happy hour. Happy hour appetizers or tapas are $2.00 off per tapa in the bar. Call (808) 955-5559 for reservations.
