I’ve been wanting to eat at Molly’s Smokehouse for awhile but never had the chance. However, this Saturday, hubby said we could eat at Molly’s Smokehouse.
Molly’s is now run by her daughter. It’ a simple restaurant that was empty when we got there at 5:30 pm which was a little scary since that’s the peak time for dinner.
We ordered the catfish nuggets appetizer ($8.50), the beef brisket and chicken combo ($15.75) with baked beans and fried okra (for an additional $1) instead of the cole slaw, and peach cobbler for dessert ($4.50) and ate family style.
The catfish was delicately fried and delicious. It was a little too peppery for hubby but I liked it. Initially, we thought of ordering the beef brisket instead of the combo. In hindsight, that’s what we should have done. The brisket was a little cold and fork tender while the chicken hind quarter was a little dry. I highly recommend the brisket. The barbecue sauce was mild but good.
The baked beans were good and sweet. The fried okra was the kind served in the Midwest.
The peach cobbler was different and thin and needed thickening. The crust was about a 1 1/2 square and flaky. I think I would pass on the peach cobbler.
When we left the restaurant, there were more customers but the restaurant was not full.
If you’re in the mood for Southern food, give Molly’s a try. Molly’s Smokehouse is located at 23 S. Kamehameha Highway.
