As I’ve said in previous posts, I love Restaurant Week and look forward to it every year and wish it were for a year instead of just a week. This year we decided to go to Ocean House at the Outrigger Reef Hotel for their $40 special which included an Ocean House salad or seafood chowder, choice of an entree of either the crab stuffed mahimahi, seafood lau lau or prime rib and either sorbet or ice cream for dessert.
I made our reservations at 5 p.m. for an early dinner. My husband and FS ordered the Seafood Lau Lau with rice. NS ordered the crab stuffed mahimahi for her entree.
Instead of the Restaurant Week special I ordered the sunset special (an 8 oz prime rib with Maui onion mashed potatoes, and Englishman English peas) for $21.95.
It was the first time at Ocean House for three in our party and we all enjoyed the ambiance of an oceanfront restaurant.
Faves for our party were the seafood chowder and Seafood lau lau. The flavor of the shrimp, scallops and fish was delicate and the seafood was cooked perfectly. Hubby was so impressed with his entree that he spoke to the manager and said we would be back.
The prime rib was tender and moist but to me lacked any taste and was quite bland. However, I liked the prime rib with the au jus sauce and horseradish. The mashed potatoes lacked flavor and the peas were overcooked. I normally don’t salt my food at restaurants but did so that night.
Service was very good. The original menu for the Ocean House Restaurant Week on the web included the Chocolate Lava Flow. However, according to our waiter, the dessert was changed mid week. When we asked if we could have the Chocolate Lava Flow, instead, the manager said it would be okay.
