Hubby had raved so much about the salmon at 53 by the Sea that at times that he did not want to order salmon anywhere else so he wouldn’t be disappointed. Therefore, I thought it would be nice to eat there again so hubby could eat the salmon.
We went to the restaurant for any early lunch and by the time we left, the restaurant was packed. Valet parking is now complimentary. It used to be $5.
I thought hubby would order the salmon but he chose the homemade fettucine with sausage and tomato sauce ($20). I ordered the veal masala ($28).
Appetizers and dessert are still complimentary at lunch. We were given sweetbread and ciabatta bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Hubby asked for butter instead. Then we were served five different appetizers…ahi salad, cold cuts, mushrooms, shrimp with salmon, and bruschetta. My faves were the bruschetta and shrimp with salmon. However, we weren’t given a choice this time. Personally, I would have chosen only three of the five appetizers if I was given a choice. Ask to see the appetizer cart and chose what you want.
Hubby wasn’t thrilled about his entree. He said it was okay. He expected the sauce to be more tomato based but he said that the sauce tasted more like a stroganoff with cream or milk.
My veal masala was very good. I had four thin slices of veal, mashed potatoes and green beans. The veal was very tender and the masala sauce perfect.
The complimentary dessert was raisin flan with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was very yummy. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. Hubby got mango sorbet instead since he is allergic to milk.
Lunch for two without any drinks was $60 with tax and tip.
The restaurant has a new chef and we were told that the menu may be changing. I would eat here again for a special occasion or if you wanted to treat yourself. Also, you gotta go to the restrooms. I know it sounds funny but check it out.
