BLT Steak House

I admit it… I am a carnivore. I like a good rib eye, spencer steak and filet mignon. Bistro Laurent Tourondel (BLT) Steak House has been on my restaurants to try list for awhile but somehow the opportunity never arose, not until March 3. March 3 is the anniversary of the first BLT Restaurant and every year on that day, there are food specials.

I convinced hubby that this would be a great opportunity for us to try BLT. I made reservations for 5 p.m. and left home at 4:30 p.m. which would have been ample time to get to Waikiki. Unfortunately, the Honolulu Festival had a parade that blocked the streets. Traffic was almost impossible to get into Waikiki. When we finally arrived at the restaurant, it was 5:20 p.m.

For that day only, the 12 oz filet, lobster, and New York steaks were only $33.04 each while the sides and the desserts $3.03.  Normally, the 12 oz. filet is $46 and the lobster $45, the sides and potatoes are $11 and the dessert $10.

Hubby ordered a Caesar salad ($12), filet ($33.04), onion rings ($3.03), and baked potato ($3.03). I ordered a filet ($33.04) and creamed spinach ($3.03) and the peanut butter chocolate mouse ($3.03).

The servers brought pate to the table with slices of bread. The pate was quite good, rich and creamy. Then came the huge popovers which I also ate with the pate. I was actually getting full and the food that I ordered hadn’t even been served. I know that people rave about the popover but I think they are just okay.

Hubby’s Caesar salad was huge and enough to share with me and take home. Hubby’s steak was perfect, butterfly cut and well done. My steak was supposed to be medium but it actually came out quite rare. I just ate the outside of the steak and said nothing since I was pretty full. I tried the red wine, steak, and peppercorn sauces. I preferred the house steak sauce and red wine sauce the best.

The onion rings were huge and good, not too crispy and the baked potato was cooked perfectly. The creamed spinach was quite good, but in my opinion, not as good as Ruth’s Chris.

We took half our our steaks home with some onion rings, spinach, and part of our dessert.

Hubby was quite impressed with BLT and said that he would go back. He said that the food was as good as Ruth’s Chris which is a compliment since Ruth’s Chris is one of our favorite restaurants.

The peanut butter chocolate mouse was okay. Parts of it tasted bitter to me. I don’t think I would order it again. Actually, the complimentary brownies were better to me.

Service was superb, attentive and professional. Our meal with tax and tip and no beverages was $112.45. The couple next to us shared the lobster cobb salad ($29) and bone in rib steak ($55).

BLT is located at 223 Saratoga Road in the Trump International Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk. Validated valet parking is free for 4 hours. To reserve a table call (808) 683-7440. I’m not sure when I’ll be going back to BLT but I will be back. If money is not an object, give it a try. Otherwise, save your money, wait until Restaurant Week in November or on March 3.
