On the Road Again…Annie Gunn’s

I admit eat, eating is a passion of mine. Trying new restaurants is something I love to do especially when I’m out of town. However, which one do I pick of the many ones that are available? That is a guessing game. I read and read and talk to people.

When hubby and I are out of town, we try to pick restaurants or foods that are not available in Hawaii. Hence, our pension for places like Olive Garden, Applebees, or even Chick-fil-A. I wanted to eat at Bristol’s in St. Louis again but hubby suggested that I try something new.

I read and read and finally decided on Annie Gunn’s in Chesterfield, MO. It was an excellent choice. Annie Gunn’s is open from Tuesday to Sunday. It is closed on Monday. They open at 11 a.m. and close at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday – Thursday, and at 11:30 p.m. on Friday – Sunday, and at 9 p.m. on Sunday. We had no reservations but arrived at the restaurant at 2 p.m. which was great. The lunch crowd had gone and we were able to sit outside. We ordered from the lunch menu but could have ordered from the dinner menu too.

I ordered the House Smoked Seafood Sampler ($20) and a cup of potato soup ($4) and hubby ordered the classic burger ($10) with havarti cheese ($2) and asparagus ($2).

The potato soup was thick and creamy with bits of bacon. Yummy. I was also able to taste the mushroom soup which was even better. The Seafood Sampler consisted of  Vermont Maple Glazed Jumbo Shrimp, Viking Village Sea Scallops, Troutdale Farm Missouri Trout and Farm Raised Sturgeon with Traditional Garnishes and House Made Bread. The sampler came with rye bread but since I am allergic to rye, I asked for another type of bread. The sampler was delicious and more than enough for me to eat so I ate the rest the next day.

Hubby’s 1/2 lb. burger was a blend of  USDA Prime Striploin, Ribeye, Angus Tenderloin and Brisket and one, if not the best burger, he has ever eaten. The classic is served with  Gunn’s Brown Sugar Cured House Smoked Local Hog Belly, Mustard Aioli and Fries. However, hubby added the cheese and ordered the asparagus instead of the fries. Hubby ate everything.

The supreme test, would we return? A definite yes. The food and service were excellent.

Annie Gunn’s reminds me of the old style restaurant, dark inside so it was very nice to sit outside in the atrium especially since the weather was nice.

Annie Gunn’s is located at 16806 Chesterfield Airport Road in Chesterfield, Missouri. Reservations are definitely recommended for lunch or dinner or else you may have to wait. For reservations call (636) 532-7684 or use open table. I checked open table for availability but did not make a reservation. Lunch with tip came out to over $50. Annie Gunn’s is not inexpensive but the quality is superb and the portions plentiful.
