Capische?

Do you understand? That’s a rough translation of the word capische. One of the owners of the B&B that hubby and I were staying recommended Capische? He said it was one of the best Italian restaurants on Maui.

With that type of recommendation, hubby and I had to try it. We made reservations for 5:30 p.m. When we got to the restaurant we were seated in The Garden which may seem romantic. However, the sun hadn’t set so it was sunny and hot. There were also mosquitos and ants crawling on the table and on us. The server gave us insect repellant to use since we were bitten by the bugs.

Hubby ordered the raviolis ($18) for an appetizer and the Roasted Chicken ($35) for his entree. I ordered the Braised Lamb Shank ($38). The raviolis (5 small pieces) were fine. Hubby said his chicken was a bit chewy. My lamb fell of the bone and was very tender. The lamb was served with a lemon risotto which complemented the lamb perfectly.

Hubby ordered a rum and coke ($9) which was a bit pricey.

Our server comped our desserts because we were celebrating our anniversary. I had the creme brulee ($15) and hubby had a scoop of peach sorbet.

Service was very attentive and friendly. Dinner with tax and tip was over $120. I’m not sure if I would go back. While the food was good, I don’t think it was outstanding as Lahaina Grill. However, if money is no object for you, give it a try. Capische? is located in the Hotel Wailea at 555 Kaukahi Road.

There is a Wailea Organic Tasting menu for $49 and a three-course tasting menu for $75. Sunset happy hour is available in the bar.
