Waiahole Poi Factory

Where do you get good Hawaiian food? In my opinion, it’s not at a luau held at a hotel. Good Hawaiian food is found at someone’s house or at backyard luau. I love good food and good food can be found everywhere, not just in five star restaurants.

Helena’s and Ono’s are known for their Hawaiian food as is Waiahole Poi Factory. On our mini trip around Oahu, hubby and I stopped at Waiahole Poi Factory. I like poi and wanted to get a plate lunch to go. I ordered the lau lau and kalua pig combo ($10.50) with poi.

Waiahole Poi Factory is in a simple building where you order the food and eat outside or take out. It’s not fancy but the food is ono. The lau lau was simple with lots of pork and butterfish and luau leaves. The taste was very good and not salty.

Waiahole Poi Factory does not serve macaroni and vegetable salad. The plate lunch comes with lomi lomi salmon and a piece of haupia. The haupia was dense and the coconut taste prominent. I asked if the kalua pig was cooked in an imu (underground) and they said no.

I encourage you to try Waiahole Poi Factory if you are in the area. Portions are generous and you will experience a taste of Hawaii. Waiahole Poi Factory is located at 48-140 Kamehameha Highway.
