Hubby and I watch Diners, Drive Inns, and Dives on television. After seeing the episode featuring Shaved Duck, we decided that we would set out to try Triple D restaurants while on vacation.
Hubby drove to Shaved Duck after we checked into the hotel and were a little worried how traffic would be. Traffic was actually light except for a little stretch. We arrived at 5:30 p.m. and found street parking which is very limited. The restaurant was busy but there were still tables open. We were seated immediately.
I ordered a cup of gumbo and the duck confit. Hubby ordered the beef brisket and polish sausage with hand cut fries as his side. The gumbo was very tasty..a little spicy chock full of sausage and shrimp. I thought the shrimp was a little overcooked. The duck confit was served with greens and was a little salty and ok. To me, nothing special.
However, hubby’s choice was spot on. The beef brisket was tender and the polish sausage delish. The hand cut fries were very good too, more than we could eat.
Shaved Duck was packed when we left. Quite a few people were ordering sandwiches and brussel sprouts so need to check those out and other items when we are in the area again.
I definitely recommend Shaved Duck. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Shaved Duck is located at 2900 Virginia Avenue in St. Louis. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday to Friday. On Monday and Saturday, the restaurant opens at 5 p.m. and closes at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. respectively.
