On the Road Again: La Taqueria on Mission Street in San Francisco

A couple of our friends highly recommended La Taqueria located at 2889 Mission Street so it was on my must try list. Hubby and I went there for a late lunch.

I ordered a soft carne asada (beef) taco, a crunchy carnitas taco with sour cream and chips with salsa and guacamole (~$13.50 cash only). A basic taco costs $3.75 with a choice of meat, beans, fresh salsa, onions, and cilantro. Extras include cheese, sour cream, avocado, or extra meat. Burritos start from $6.75.

Hubby said his beef was tough and didn’t have much taste. Mind you hubby likes hamburger in his taco, not chunks of meat. I liked my carnitas taco. The pork was tender and plentiful. I also added the hot sauce on the table which gave the taco a little kick. The guacamole and salsa were good too. The chips were fair.

Hubby said that La Taqueria was just average to him and was the least favorite restaurant of our trip.

I thought the food was fine but nothing special. Some people on Yelp complain about the price but La Taqueria was reasonable to me. However, it depends what you put on your taco which will increase the cost of your taco. I’m not a Mexican food expert but I’ve been to Mexico and I appreciate good food. La Taqueria is not fancy and may be just what you want.
