My significant other likes to drive. One night while we were cruising, we passed MW restaurant located at the old KGMB site. The restaurant was packed.
We decided to try MW Restaurant after work for their happy hour which is between 2 to 5 p.m. The restaurant was pretty empty at 4 p.m. To me happy hour is an opportunity to try a restaurant without paying a lot of money.
We ordered the poke nachos, miso eggplant, unagi and butterfish arancini, fried chicken jidori (5 wings), and the spam musubi with quail eggs. Each small plate was $5.
Both my SO and I enjoyed the food. In fact, my SO enjoyed the arancini so much, he ordered another portion. Our faves were the eggplant and the arancini. The eggplant was very similar to the eggplant served at Doraku.
The poke nachos was served with avocado and tortilla chips. The poke was a little spicy and complemented the avocado. The unagi and butterfish arancini were delicately fried and great with the nori tsukudani.
I ordered the tropical creamsicle ($9) for dessert. It was not what I expected but was quite good especially if you eat all layers at the same time.
While we had to wait for service initially, our waiter was helpful and attentive.
MW Restaurant is contemporary. However, the restaurant walls are stark and the place is not inviting. The chairs are comfortable and the food was good enough that we’ll be back.
MW Restaurant is located at 1538 Kapiolani Boulevard, Suite 107. Lunch is served 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. For reservations call 955-6505.
