Kalapawai Cafe & Deli

It’s unfortunate but true, living in Honolulu, I don’t venture over to the Windward side of Oahu because it’s too far away. Ridiculous as it may seem, 20 minutes is usually too long for me to drive for a meal. However, my SO suggested that we go to Kaneohe or Kailua for lunch and said I could pick a restaurant. I chose Kalapawai Cafe and Deli to try.

When we left town it was pouring rain that made visibility limited. We even thought about turning around. However, after checking the weather maps, we found out the weather was better on the Windward side. The restaurant was pretty easy to get to.

Table service is not available for breakfast or lunch so when you walk in, look at the menu boards on the right and order your sandwich, salads, and or deli items. My SO order the turkey and bacon club on focaccia bread instead of sour dough ($8.79). I chose the vegetable lasagna and crab cake in the deli showcase for my lunch. Deli items are sold by the pound or by the piece.

After you order your sandwiches or deli items, go then to the cashier on the left side to purchase any drinks or pastry items. Place your number on the table and the server will  bring your food to the table.

We also ordered an apple cinnamon muffin and a chocolate mousse cake. Total for our food with tip was $32.70. My SO said his apple muffin was of the best that he had eaten. His sandwich was good too and filling.

The vegetable lasagna was delicious with just the right amount of spices. The mousse cake was not too sweet and yummy.

I definitely recommend trying Kalapawai Deli. It’s a casual restaurant with good food. They are located at 750 Kailua Road. Dinner table service starts at 5 pm. I’d like to try that one day.
