I really enjoyed eating at the Tommy Bahama restaurant in Maui and was looking forward to eating at their new location in Waikiki. The worst part for locals eating at Tommy Bahama is the parking. Parking in Waikiki can be expensive. Validated self parking ($6) is available at the Bank of Hawaii building in addition to valet parking ($6 without tip) at First Hawaiian. There is also very limited street parking.
My SO and I went to Tommy Bahama for a late lunch/early dinner around 3:30 pm on Saturday. It was an ideal time since there was hardly anyone there. I ordered the filet mignon steak salad ($23.50). My SO ordered the wedge salad ($10) and the pork quesadilla ($12.50).
The wedge salad was huge. It looked like it was half a head of lettuce. There were two wedges on the plate. However, my SO said his salad was mediocre and not crisp. The quesadilla on the other hand was lightly fried and good. My steak salad was huge and very good. The salad had tomatoes, mixed green with shiitake mushrooms and potatoes. The filet mignon was not just a few slices. It looked like it was 6-8 ounces of steak which was tender and cooked perfectly. I could not finish the entire salad so am looking forward to another good meal.
We ordered the chocolate cake ($12.50) which looked good but was a bit dry.
Service was friendly and good. My SO said he would eat at Tommy Bahama again but would pass on the wedge salad. I would pass on dessert and eat at Cheesecake Factory instead. Their cake is better and less expensive. If money is not an object, try the creme brûlée at Tommy Bahama. I ordered it in Maui and it was good.
Lunch at Tommy Bahama was over $75 with tip. Tommy Bahama is located at 298 Beachwalk Drive. Reservations may be made online at open table or call 923-8785.
