On the Road… Chen’s Chinese Super Buffet

My SO and I have a rule. We don’t eat the types of food that we can eat at home (Oriental) or at restaurants that we have at home. We made an exception this time and tried Chen’s Chinese Buffet.

The buffet is quite extensive and tries to appeal to both locals and those few Asians who have discriminating taste.

First of all, the buffet includes sushi and stir fry items which they call hibachi. Sushi is Japanese or Korean, not Chinese. The sushi is ok, the California roll type instead of the nigiri with raw fish. Imitation crab is used instead of real crab.

The lunch buffet includes fried chicken, fried okra, and fried catfish. Bourbon chicken, fried rice, noodles, and various stir fried dishes are also on the buffet. Blue Bunny ice-cream and toppings, cakes, and jello are on the dessert portion of the buffet.

The hibachi part of the buffet was what I liked. I chose my meat, vegetables, starch and sauce and had it cooked. It was, in my opinion, the best part of the buffet.

The cost of the lunch buffet was $7.95 plus tax and tip. There is a also a 10% discount for seniors. I would rate Chen’s 3.5 out of 5. The food is average, nothing special, but very reasonable. Service was good.

It is located at 1655 Southdale Drive in Lebanon, Missouri.
