Where do you find upscale Korean food located in Chinatown? Look no further than O’Kims. Located at 1164 Smith Street, O’Kims is a hole-in-the-wall with a take out business. There were just three chairs to sit and eat when I picked up my lunch. Check out their website http://www.okimshawaii.com to peruse their monthly menu and then call 537-3787 to order. If you do this, your food will be ready and you won’t need to stand in line to order.
Parking is available on the street or at the municipal parking lot (entry on Beretania). I ordered the Kal Bi plate ($10.99). It came with purple rice, root vegetables, salad, and kim chee. The kal bi slices were very tender and the seasoning not overwhelming. The root vegetables were undercooked and a bit crunchy. The purple rice was the surprise, unusual and very good. The kim chee was mild and crunchy.
I definitely would return to pick up food at O’Kims again. The food served is not the typical Korean food but it is very good. LC and I shared the Kal Bi plate and it was enough for both of us. Purchase a box and take it home, to your office or the park. You won’t regret it.
