Basalt is a trendy, contemporary restaurant located at 2255 Kuhio Avenue, the renovated area of Duke’s Lane. Although I walk by Basalt on my way to Starbucks, I’ve never eaten there until yesterday. Basalt was one of my choices for Restaurant Week.
We made reservations on open table for 5 p.m. and arrived on time. The host/hostess staff although friendly and helpful seemed a little disorganized and newly hired. My SO could not decide whether to sit inside or outside. The inside was cold so we opted to go outside which was quite comfortable.
Happy Hour is from 3- 6 pm so my SO ordered from that menu. He ordered the wagyu steak and potatoes ($6) and the sausage flatbread ($7). I ordered the Restaurant Week Special ($45). I chose the lobster bisque, rib eye steak, and black sesame seed Panna Cotta.
Fresh rolls were served with butter. They were soft, sweet and delicious. The wagyu steak and potatoes were perfectly cooked. The flatbread was also good. The lobster bisque was creamy with bits of lobster. The steak was very tasty and came with wilted greens and creamed corn. I loved the creamed corn and steak. The Panna Cotta, which was served with a cookie, was smoothe & delicious.
The wait staff is friendly and attentive.
Basalt is a find. We will definitely eat here again. Validated parking (4 hours) is on the 4th and 5th floor of the Hyatt Centric parking lot (entrance on Seaside). Breakfast is served daily from 7 am – 10:30 am. Basalt is open for dinner at 5 pm but has all day dining from 10:30 am – 10:30 pm. The sunset dinner special (5 – 6 pm) is the same menu as Restaurant Week so if you miss Restaurant Week you can still get a good deal.
